When you think of San Antonio, Texas normally what comes to mind are the Alamo and the successful NBA franchise the San Antonio Spurs. Well you can add another name to that list - Yung Fresh. That's right I said it Yung Fresh! And I bet you that 9 times out of ten the sound you hear coming from your radio and hailing straight from the streets of San Antonio is that of 21 year old Tony Brown PKA YUNG FRESH.
Born in Oklahoma, 21-year old Yung and his family moved around quit a bit with various stops in Georgia, Florida, Maryland and even Japan. But the one thing that remained constant was his love of music. Fresh grew up hearing the productions of Gamble and Huff, the legendary Motown sound and the in your face reality of Hip Hop. And despite being a proud fan of Ludacris, Outkast, T.I and Jay-Z who rule the airwaves today, Fresh credits the late great Tupac Shakur as his main musical influence.
Fresh began rapping at 16 when his family settled down in San Antonio. Rapping came natural to Yung Fresh because as he puts it "the beat thinks for me. It just comes to me, I write one verse and the rest flow organically - man the beat write itself." In four short years Fresh has become a house hold name in the greater San Antonio area. He has performed in San Antonio, Mecallan and San Angelo Texas as well as Oklahoma and Atlanta Georgia. Having opened up for acts like TUM TUM, ZRO, The GAME, DJ UNK, PAUL WALL and CHAMILLIONARE fresh has seen his popularity grow. Today, Fresh is unable to walk the local mall without attracting attention from admires and nay sayers alike.
Fresh's debut single "Magnificent" is a true testament to his versatility and universal range as an artist. On the single the first line from the hook tells it all - "they say I'm magnificent - that's the only way I know how to be." This is not over confident bravado but an appeal to his fans that he is doing this for them. As a passionate artist Fresh believes in respect the music and the rest will come. "I take my shit very seriously, I'm not in it for the money or fame. I just do it for the love of the music." On “Blast Off” another joint from the album Fresh uses this single as his opportunity to be creative and take more chances. The beat is heavy and kick is sharp and Fresh channels his inner Marvin Gaye and delivers a cool laid back hook which talks to the ladies directly. "We could blast off into outer space into outer space".
What’s next for Fresh? Well the sky's the limit but tomorrow is not guaranteed so today Fresh is working hard to maintain the buzz he currently has by hitting the radio stations, twittering like crazy, promoting his own social network and letting people know "They call me Fresh."
